Artist Statement
I make art for the sheer joy of creating and challenging my subconscious to show itself. Many times I have felt like I am a slave to the work. I will begin in one direction and the work itself will lead me in another. It is as if the art is in control and I'm simply a vehicle for its expression. While I can set myself to the task of rendering, I prefer a more free-flowing experience in creative endeavors.
Mixed Media is playful. If I let it, the work will take me places I've never gone before and in so doing, gives rise to layers of immense feelings. It is something that can only be experienced during the creative process. In the end, I hope that those viewing the work will experience some of the feelings that have arisen during the process.
When my heart is lifted and my eyelids relax, I know the piece is complete, it doesn't need me anymore.
It is its own entity. It has given birth to itself and all that remains to do is to celebrate it.
