Agata Augustine
BIOGRAPHY
I was born into an artistic family. My mother, Irena, was a painter and my younger sister, Paulina, is a graphic designer and printmaker.
In 1994 I entered the Strzeminski Academy of Fine Art and Design, where I received my Master of Arts degree in painting in 2002.
While attending the Academy, I used my summer vacations to travel as an exchange student and go to England and the USA, working to support my schooling. During that time I met my American husband and decided to stay and continue my career in the USA. However, I tend to go back to Poland and work on interesting art projects over there.
In 2005 and 2006 I was hired as a set artist for the “SE MA FOR Film Studio” in Lodz, Poland. I co- created set designs for the puppet animation movie “Peter and the Wolf”, directed by Suzy Templeton. In 2008 “Peter and the Wolf” won an Academy Award as the “Best Short Animated Movie”.
In September, 2006 I started working as a full time painting and drawing teacher for the State Schools of Arts in Lodz, Poland
At the end of 2009 I received a job offer from “Breakthru Films” located in Lodz, Poland. I was again working as a set artist for the movie “The Flying Machine”.
Now I expect to be in the USA for a long time, but I hope that in my art I will still develop new ideas that will help me to continue my career in this country.
The first step has already been taken. I am creating paintings for private commissions and I have opened my own “OBRAZ art studio” in Elkhart Lake/Plymouth, WI. I am teaching art classes for adults. I also conduct classes at the Plymouth Art Center and John Michael Kohler Art Center. I also work full time as an Interior Designer at the Kohler Design Center.
